Based on Hildegard of Bingen’s concept of “Viriditas,” this orchestral work celebrates the hopeful vision of a "greening" world. Lush and evocative, the music moves from the mystery of verdant earth into the watery rich beauty of plant, animal, and bird life, and then finds completion in the audience's meditative, communal single-note chant at its shimmering conclusion.

Two short excerpts from “VÖLUSPÁ-Song of the Seeress” based on the opening text of “Poetic Edda,” the epic Viking saga that tells the story of Ragnarok through the voice of a mystic seeress. The piece was commissioned and premiered by the Northwest Symphony Orchestra and was a finalist in the 2022 American Prize.
